Mogul has stood on Rotherhithe Street since 1996. Same family, same kitchen, the better part of thirty years serving one corner of south-east London.
You will not stumble across us by accident. Mogul sits in Gwent Court, just off the Thames Path, a few minutes' walk from the Brunel Museum and the Hilton London Docklands Riverside. Regulars tend to describe us the same way - as somewhere they are glad to have found, and slightly reluctant to tell everyone about.
That has been the pattern since 1996: local families, people working nearby, guests staying at the hotel across the water, and visitors walking the Thames Path who follow the smell of the tandoor.
Our chefs cook home-style Indian food to order - tandoori grills from a clay oven, traditional curries, biryanis, baltis, and a vegetarian selection that has grown considerably over the years. The menu is deliberately extensive, because a curry house should have your favourite on it, whatever your favourite happens to be.
Heat is cooked to taste rather than to a formula. If you want something milder or hotter than the menu suggests, ask - the kitchen would far rather cook it the way you want it.
Mogul is BYOB, with no corkage charge. Bring the wine or beer you actually want to drink with dinner, and spend the difference on another starter. It is an increasingly rare thing in London, and we have no plans to change it. More about BYOB at Mogul.
A family-run restaurant lives or dies on its staff, and ours are the reason people keep coming back. Read the reviews and you will find the waiters named personally more often than any individual dish - which, after thirty years, is the part we are proudest of.
